March is knocking at the door and your New Year Resolutions have fallen a bit short. You have tried to set up some goals and the week starts off towards them but by the end of the week you are out of steam.
How do you keep the motivation to achieve your goals? Reach out! (And I don’t mean as in an exercise this time.) Reach out to your circle of friends, family, co-workers, anyone you know will give you positive encouragement to keep going. Few people are dedicated or disciplined enough to go it alone. This is why there are still coaches and trainers at the most elite levels of sports.
“Ok,” you say. “I have let my inner circle know what I my goals are and while they are helpful I feel like I need outside input.”
This is where the joys of modern technology can be very helpful. Reach out on social media (since you are probably already messing around on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinerest anyway.) Prevention Magazine has a great article on how Twitter might be able to make you Thinner. Look for hash tags that relate to what your goals are: #quitsmoking #weightloss #buildingmuscle #gettingmybutttothegymwhenIdon’tfeellikeit. Ok that last one is way to long for the 140-character limit on Twitter.
Set up a private group on Facebook and as you get to know people through Twitter invite them to your Facebook group for more in-depth conversations and brainstorming.
Even plain old texting can be invaluable. My support groups are my sisters and my gang of gals at TKO Fitness. Sometimes a simple text of “Nice job last night.” Or “Are you drinking enough water today?” is all you need to get you motivated and back on track.
Remember reaching out is not a sign of weakness it is a sign that you are serious about your goals and your commitment to reach them.
Ready? Set. Go!
