What's Open and Closed on Victory Day?

Rhode Island state offices and some businesses will be closed in observance of Victory Day today. Since the holiday is not federally recognized, federal organizations will remain open on Monday.

Rhode Island is the only state in the country to observe Victory Day. The holiday commemorates the surrender of Japan on Aug. 15, 1945, nine days after the United States dropped the world's first atom bomb on Hiroshima.

The holiday is not a recognized national holiday, so federal offices, including the U.S. Postal Service, will remain operational.

State and local government municipal offices–except for town beaches and essential emergency services—will be closed.

Tiverton Town Hall: Closed

Little Compton Town Hall: Closed - The Agricultural Conservancy Trust will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in Town Council chambers.

Tiverton School District: Closed

I once met a survivor of Bataan Death March. This day honors the men and women who fought for freedom against a brutal enemy .

I agree, Joe regarding the honoring the men and women who for for freedom during our WW II. I have a question: If the banks who are FDIC approved, why aren't they open (e.g., Bank Newport)?

RI requires employers to pay over time if employees work today. That's why I'm home with out pay today. RI is the most unfriendly State to do business.
