Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, located on Main Road in Stone Bridge, celebrated its 300th anniversary on Sunday, which included a reception from Right Rev. Geralyn Wolfe, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island.

Sunday kicked off the 300th Anniversary Celebration, which according to Committee Chairman Robert Humphrey, goes toward an entire year of celebrating the milestone. Events are planned and he said they are working toward goals to help educate people about the church, its history and continue outreach efforts to welcome more members.

"Sunday was wonderful," he said in an interview on Monday. "The service was well attended."

In 1704, the Society for Propagation and Gospel appointed James Honyman to serve Anglicans in Newport. His ministry included Tiverton, where he would ride on horseback up the island and cross the Sakonnet River to bring his mission to Tiverton and the Little Compton area. This was 54 years after Native Americans sold their land to colonists Tiverton.
