Tiverton Police Department: DUI, Drug Possession and Warrants

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

 

Tiverton Woman Charged With DUI

Michelle Desrochers, 52, of 95 Beech Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on Sept. 6 at 11:09 p.m. and charged with driving under the influene, first offense, and numerous traffic citations. According to reports, police saw Desrochers car stopped at a green light at the intersection of  Main Road and Garden Ave. After Desrochers began driving again, police followed and allegedly watched her weaving in the roadway. After police stopped the woman, an officer noted the odor of alcohol on her breath. Desrochers failed a field sobriety test and blew a .141 on  the preliminary breath test. later at the station, she registered a .148 and .143 on the breathalyzer. She was held overnight and arraigned the next day in district court.

Tiverton Man Charged with Possession of Marijuana

Benjamin D. Croft, 21, of 33 Narragansett Ave., Tiverton was arrested on Sept. 15 at 10:12 p.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, first offense. Police approached Croft's car, which was the only car parked in the Sakonnet Ridge parking lot, at about 9:45 p.m. As officers walked toward the car, they allegedly saw the male driver ducking down in the seat. According to reports, police smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car and during a search found a clear plastic baggie containing 4.1 grams of marijuana under the driver's seat. Croft was taken into custody and given a summons for arraignment.

20-Year-Old Allegedly Violates Restraining Order

Jordan S. Mello, 20,  of 85 Harris St., East Providence, was arrested on Sept. 15 at 11:15 p.m. and charged with violating a restraining order. He was picked up on the warrant by the Little Compton Police Department based on a Sept. 10 incident and later transported to Tiverton where he was held overnight and released on $1,000 bail with surety.

Arrested on Warrant:

  • Cheryl Denise DePina, 26 , of 9 Clinton St., Newport was arrested on Sept. 6 at 1:44 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license after a Tiverton Police officer saw her driving without wearing a safety belt. A subsequent computer check showed that DePina was wanted on an outstanding warrant, and that her license and registration were both suspended. She was arraigned in Second Division District Court the next day.
  • Michele Keys, 41, of 15 Meeting St., Newport, was arrested on Sept. 8 at 12:07 a.m. on a warrant. According to reports, police received a report of a suspicious woman sitting hunched over on a Fish Road sidewalk near the Bourne Mill Apartments. Police made contact with Keys and determined she was fine, but a computer check revealed her warrant and she was taken into custody. A justice of the peace arraigned and released Keys the next day.
  • Jeffrey Oliveira, 43, of 36 Ghadoury St., Westport, MA was arrested on Sept. 14 at 1:51 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was stopped for a non-functioning tail light on Bulgarmarsh Road when a routine computer check discovered Oliveira not only had a suspended license, but that he owned fines to the Sixth Division District Court. He was held overnight and arraigned the next day.
  • James Barnes, 40, of 142 Bryant Lane, New Bedford, MA, was arrested on Sept. 17 at 1:04 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police stopped Barnes for driving without a safety belt on Cottrell Road where a routine check found he was also wanted on an active bench warrant for failure to make payments. He was taken into custody and no release data was available at press time.
  • Justin M. Pontes, 23, 209 Sawdy Drive, Westport, was arrested on Sept. 17 at 6:06 p.m. on a bench warrant for failure to pay fines. According to police reports, he was stopped for not wearing a safety belt on Haskins Ave. when police learned his vehicle was uninsured and that he owed $219.5 to the courts. He was arrested and later released after paying a bail commissioner.
  • Jason R. Haley, 20, of 200 Fulton St. Apt. 21, Fall River, MA was arrested on Sept. 19 at 10:38 a.m. on a bench warrant from district court for nonpayment of fines. He was taken into custody and arraigned later that day.
