Tiverton Police Arrest Brothers, Charged With Massachusetts Purse Snatchings

Two brothers were arrested on Sunday, Feb. 24 after they were allegedly involved in two purse snatching incidents in Massachusetts.

Two brothers, one of Tiverton and the other of Fall River, face multiple felony charges after Tiverton Police arrested the pair as they fled Massachusetts after alleged purse snatching incidents in Swansea and Fall River.

Tiverton Police stopped Tyler G. Lima, 21, of 588 Crandall Road, Tiverton and his brother, Cory M. Lima, 25, of 162 Lafayette St., Fall River, on Fish Road on Sunday, Feb. 24 believing it was connected to the Massachusetts purse thefts.

According to Tiverton Public Information Officer Capt. Patrick Jones, radio dispatch informed patrol officers that a car containing two white males and matching the description of the Lima's vehicle was traveling into Tiverton from Fall River via Fish Road.

At about 5:25 p.m. Officer Bryan Palagi saw a car matching the description and stopped the Limas.

During a subsequent investigation and search of the vehicle, Palagi reportedly recovered one of the stolen purses from the vehicle and learned that the second purse was thrown out of the car's window on Fish road.

Based on the evidence, police arrested both Lima brothers and charged them with two counts each of receiving stolen goods and being fugitives from justice based on the two alleged Massachusetts incidents.

The Lima brothers were held overnight and arraigned next day in Second Division District Court. Each received a one year suspended sentenced and one year of probation. The brothers were then handed over to Massachusetts authorities.
