An unidentified woman was flown to Rhode Island Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries after a rollover crash on Stone Church Road in Tiverton just after 7 p.m. on Monday.

According to Tiverton Fire Chief Robert Lloyd, the woman suffered serious injuries after the car she was driving veered off of the road and rolled into the woods on Stone Church Road.

Firefighters responding to the accident used the jaws of life to extricate the woman from her four-door silver sedan. The car was reportedly wrapped around a tree and barely visible from the roadway.

"My guys did a good job, a real good job," said Lloyd.

"It took about 30 minutes to extricate her from the vehicle," Lloyd added.

Tiverton Fire Rescue administered emergency treatment and transported the woman, who was in-and-out of consciousness, to meet Boston Medflight. The helicopter picked her up for transport from Tiverton Fire Station 1 at about 7:40 p.m.

"The reason we called in the helicopter is because the time it takes for transport from the south end of Tiverton to Rhode Island Hospital is excessive," said Lloyd. "It's about how we take care of that golden hour from when a person is injured until we can get them into a hospital for treatment."

Initial calls reporting the crash came in at 7:11 p.m., but Lloyd said fire crews were unsure how long the woman's car had been in the woods. Lloyd said the vehicle miscalculated a turn near 191 Stone Church Road and missed a protective guardrail, causing her car to crash into the woods.

Little Compton, Portsmouth and Fall River departments covered Tiverton's stations while responding to the crash.

Tiverton Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
