Talent Show Held By Tiverton Church Youth Groups

Proceeds go toward their upcoming trip to Indiana this summer for the National Youth Event at Purdue University.

A talent show took place at on March 4, where many talented individuals of various ages and acts came out in support of the combined church youth groups at Amicable and as part of their ongoing fundraising efforts toward a summer trip.

"It truly brought a smile to my face to see how many people came out to support the children," said youth group leader Laurie Arruda in an email. "People gave of themselves in so many ways."

She said many attendees spread the word, came and sat in the audience, brought a popcorn machine, baked for the refreshment table, served at intermission, offered help in whatever way, and most importantly, applauded and made everyone feel special who took the stage.

The fundraiser for the youth groups is in preparation for an upcoming trip to the United Church of Christ's National Youth Event (NYE), being held at Purdue University in Indiana. Arruda said it's an event that only happens every four years, where 3,000 to 4,000 youth from all over the country will gather in fellowship, learning experiences from various speakers and do community outreach together.

The Tiverton youth group will be traveling by bus July 7, stopping off in Cleveland for two days doing community service and then traveling onto Indiana for the conference. There are 12 kids going at a cost of $750 each for the week.

"It's a great opportunity for the youth to meet with other youth from across the country interested in the same community service and outreach efforts," Arruda added.

Their next fundraiser is a May Breakfast that they have been putting on for a few years now, and Arruda added it's always a great time.
