State Police Arrest Rep. Dan Gordon On Massachusetts Charges
He is being held at the Adult Correctional Institution for a Monday arraignment.
State Rep. Dan Gordon (R-Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton) was arrested this past week on an oustanding warrant in Massachusetts, including a charge of eluding a police officer, the Providence Journal reports.
In a Rhode Island State Police barracks report for Friday, Sept. 16, it was reported that Gordon, 42, of 35 Allan Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested by the Major Crimes and Intelligence Unit as a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts for failing to appear in court on a charge from 2008 of eluding a police officer and other motor vehicle violations.
It was reported Gordon was initially arrested on Wednesday for driving on a suspended license after going to the Portsmouth barracks to file a cyberstalking complaint. The newspaper also reported Gordon was given a court date and released on Wednesday.
A formal arraignment has been reportedly set for Monday, Sept. 19, as Gordon is being held at the Adult Correctional Institution.
Gordon was expelled from the House GOP Caucus on Sept. 7. A full explanation has not been given for his expulsion, although there have been strong hints that his party leaders were uneasy of comments Gordon has made on various online forums.
Gordon stirred up controversy earlier this year after making comments on a Tiverton-Little Compton Patch article about the newly formed Gay-Straight Alliance at Tiverton High School.

All other issues aside - where is this man's head? He drove to the police station on a suspended license? Isn't that just asking for trouble? Even if he wasn't aware of the outstanding warrant, or thought it was resolved (as I'm sure someone will come out and say on his behalf), you've got to know that your license is due to renew.
Is this kind of issue something that will get him removed from the State House altogether?

Sarah, unfortunately not. He would probablhave to kill someone in a DUI crash before that happened. As it is there is another RI Rep who was convicted of DUI and could've killed someone and he is still there. As sad as it is....

From ProJo article: O'Donnell said Gordon was initially charged with driving on a suspended license, given a court date and released on Wednesday, after he came into the Portsmouth barracks that day to file a "cyberstalking'' complaint, centering on allegations that "people were saying things about him on blogs.''
When police investigated Gordon's own record, O'Donnell said they found he had "a very extensive record in Massachusetts,'' which led to the discovery of the outstanding warrant there in connection with a 2008 incident in which he allegedly tried to elude a police officer.

He tried to file a "cyberstalking" complaint? Wow. The light hearted comments about him must have really gotten under his skin. What a baby! He shoots his mouth off and now wants to take the Gablinske route... That's funny.

I thought the cyberstalking thing was a bit odd, myself, given the fact that part of the reason that Gordon was booted from the party was due to his own comments online....

Do the right thing for once and resign Mr. Gordon. You embarassed yourself going after a bunch of high school kids, basically calling them perverts and heathens and implying they were engaged in orgies on school grounds, like some sort of Southern preacher out of the 50's. Now we find out you were on the run from the law? What a disgrace. Even the GOP, as little power as they have in RI, doesn't want you. Get the message, get out and go back to Massachusetts.

Joe, I agree with your second sentence. Your first sentence makes no sense at all. Are you saying that Gordon is being persecuted by Rhode Island and Massachusetts police for his extremist views? Or are you saying it's okay that Gordon is a criminal because his views are outside the boundaries of mainstream and contemporary thought. Please elaborate.
I think it is time for him to resign. Appoint another Republican to take his place. At least then his district would have some semblance of representation. If he cares at all about his responsibilities to his constituents, then this is what he should do.

I saw on Channel 10 he asked for a public defender. Sounds kinda socialist to me.
Joe, as usual, is just blowing off whatever one of his pals does. I'm sure it's all a big conspiracy worked up by the teacher's union, the Tiverton Democratic Town Committee, those high school kids, etc. anyhow.

Held without bail! Must be a real peach. They don't just hold someone without bail unless they have an extensive criminal history or are a flight risk. I don't thinnk he is a flight risk but how would I know. Afterall I am just "cyberstalking" I guess...
Disclaimer: I am not actually cyberstalking, rather I am expressing my freedom of speech even though it involves a "politician".

Rug it doesn't matter if he is a demoRAT or a republiCANT it is the fact that he is a total idiot. I could care less about political parties I personally feel we should abolish them all together. People should run on their views not their party. Political parties do nothing but create gridlock Demorats won't vote for a Reublicants bill even if it is a good bill and Republicants won't support a Demorats bill because it was proposed by a Demorat. everyone should stand on their own merits. Demorats have some good ideas and so do Republicants but the parties are only trying to help themselves insted of the people who put them there.
