Sports Illustrated's 'Golden' Prediction for Beisel

Sports Illustrated predicts Beisel will take home gold this year.

With the kickoff of the 2012 Olympic Games today, one small-town Rhode Island woman has big dreams to medal in the London Olympics.

According to Sports Illustrated: Elizabeth Beisel should walk away with a gold medal.

The sports publication released its predictions for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. According to the magazine, 19-year-old Saunderstown native will walk away with the gold medal in the 400-meter individual medley – her best event.

In addition to the 400-meter, Beisel will compete in the 200-meter backstroke. Sports Illustrated's predictions for her in this event aren't as lofty, however.

Locals have been fundraising for the past week to send Beisel's parents and brother to watch her compete on the world stage next month with a t-shirt sale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the North Kingstown Food Pantry. Learn more about the custom T-shirts here.
