Money has to be spent - there is no avoiding that.
There should be a security guard posted during school hours, as well as a "security check" room located somewhere between the outer doors, and the school admin office. Ballistic glass on all outer windows, and doors, and lastly, each classroom should have a secure room that they can be brought to in case of emergency. (A bit extreme maybe, but considering the risk, is it really?) So instead of spending more money on a library that is really not needed since we already have two (and there are so many other things the money could go to), spend it on the safety of our children!

Now that's really classy Joe, taking one of the worst mass murders in the history of the country and making a joke of it. Do you not have any decency?
And speaking of who the schools should keep far away, that would be YOU, the gun lover who constantly brags about the large cache of firearms you own and keep in your house.
It's going to be a day for celebration when the ATF shows up at your house and takes you out in handcuffs.

I didnt respond to your post on the other thread because I said I wouldnt respond to anymore anti-gun people on that thread. Now , I hope you never leave the anti-gun sida of this debate. When I asked what you were against when it comes to assault weapons, The name, the caliber or the clip capacity. Your responce was all of the above. The name of the weapon can be changed to anything you want it to be. You can have the legal capacity of the clip to 5 or 6 because most states wont let you hunt with a rifle with a capacity of more than that. As far as the caliber goes 223 is a very small caliber almost the smallest caliber made. If you ban every gun under a 223 caliber thenyou will ban almost every gun on the planet. If every law abiding person turned in their gun all law abiding people would have no defence against the criminals that you will never get to turn in their guns. criminals will take the path of least resistence and rob or kill those that cant defend themselves. Whenever a criminal attemps to rob a business and they are confronted with someone with a weapon they will most often get out of there rather than take the chance of being shot. I asked you over and over to name me one of the people that commited any of these horrible crimes, that didnt have any mental issues and you havent named one or even addressed the question.

I think your dislike for guns is because you dont have or care to have any information about guns or there proper use. It is obvious you have no knowledge of guns so maybe you should educate yourself on guns before you equate guns with Nuclear bombs or butter knives again. It is hard for me to believe how anti-gun advocates are useing these tragedies to promote their anti-gun beliefs. If these people were useing cars to commit this carnage would you want to ban cars or would you then go after the root of the problem which is again Mental health.

Ken-It is YOU who did not respond to the question posed to you numerous times, and that would be what is the purpose of a civilian owning a military style assault weapon? It doesn't matter if it's a Bushmaster .223, and AK-47, or any other one of these efficient killing machines. What perverse thrill do you get handling and shooting these types of weapons? Their only purpose is to kill and maim the most amount of humans in the quickest and most efficient way possible. Are those type of weapons appropriate for the military or law enforcement officers?-Absolutely. Are they appropriate for civilian use?-ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Once again Ken, it does not matter about the name, caliber, etc. of these military style assault weapons. What does matter is that these types of weapons be outlawed before more innocent children are slaughtered. No private citizen has the need to keep/own a cache of guns that could equip an entire SWAT team-No need whatsoever.

An assualt rifle is only a name it does not mean that there are no other uses for these guns. Believe it or not people target shoot and hunt with these weapons. It appears that you think every person that owns one gun owns a enough of them to stock an army. Again you are so clowded by your hate for anyone who doesnt share you hate for something that you have no knowledge of. Have you ever shot a gun? If you havent how would you know weather it is a perverse thing to do or not. An assault rifle is no more a killing machine then any other weapon is. Its not the weapon that makes it a killing machine it is the intent of the person fireing it. Again this comes back to the mental state of the person useing this weapon.

is it true that Tiverton did away with the officer at the high school, or did someone replace him ?

The school resource officer was a full time position until about two years ago when the federal grant money that paid the salary dried up. This year the district brought an officer back to school buildings for one day per week.

Unlike some of the people here I believe that in this day and age all schools should have an armed officer in the schools whenever school is in session. I live in Smithfield and we still have school resource officers .

Ken, if the terrorist who killed these 20 children and 6 adults did not have access to the Bushmaster or similar type weapon, then these people would still be alive today. By the way, I don't think the size of the bullet matters to the families who lost their children and love ones.

The kid that killed those other kids had mental health issues. If those issues were addressed we would not have had to worry about what kind of weapon he used because this wouldnt have happened. Why do you think this kid wouldnt have just use something else for a weapon. A weapon doesnt even need to be a gun. If you dont work on the mental health issues all you will accomplish is making these people choose and different weapon. A gun is A gun is A gun. If you are on the wrong end of one that has someone with bad intentions on the other it's not going to turn out well. As it is with any weapon. By the way you are right that the size of the bullet, Im sure doesnt matter to the parents. Not sure why you said that.
