In the race for President of the United States, influential Rhode Island political insiders have weighed in regarding who has run the better "ground game" in Rhode Island leading up to the election during our latest Red Rhody/Blue Rhody political survey.

According to our results, Democratic influencers felt Obama has run a better ground campaign by a wide margin while a majority of Republican influencers surveyed said the ground campaign up to this point has been even.

In 2008, Rhode Island voted Democratic with 296,571 voters casting ballots for the Obama-Biden team. Republican John McCain and Sarah Palin earned 165,391 votes. According to the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office nearly 475,000 ballots were cast in 2008, breaking the record set back in 1992 of 453,477.

You can read the rest of our Red Rhody/Blue Rhody survey here.

Updates:

12:30 a.m. It was a good night for Democrats in Rhode Island Tuesday. David Cicilline, James Langevin and Sheldon Whitehouse all won re-election. Click here to read more about their victories.

8:40 p.m. Voters in Rhode Island on Tuesday cast their ballot for Barack Obama, giving him the state's 4 Electoral votes. Click here to read more on the story.

12:15 p.m. Heavy traffic is being blamed for slowing down the Rhode Island Secretary of State's website Tuesday morning as voters flocked to the site to check out their polling locations. According to officials at the office, the site is back up and running. One of the possibilities for the heavy traffic could be due to the recent changes in the realignment of political districts and people looking to find where their polling station was located.

11:34 a.m. According to numerous media reports, Rhode Island residents were facing long lines at some polling places Tuesday morning. In two polling places, the wrong ballots were in place at the stations.  Officials said the incorrect ballots were delivered by the state Board of Elections for two polling places, West Kingston Elementary School in South Kingstown and Elks Lodge in West Warwick. Voting was delayed in each location, and some voters left without casting a ballot, according to town officials. The correct ballots were later delivered. Check out more of this story on our North Kingstown Patch site.

If you want to get this state moving again, toss out the obstructionists - the Democrats. Otherwise it will continue to get worse.

I don't think it's the Democrats or Republicans. It's the inefficiency of having so many local governments serving a population that could easily be served by one police department, one fire department, one school systems, one public works department, etc. We moved here from Loudoun County Virginia which had a population about the size of RI. They needed one of each. Real estate taxes for equal size homes were slightly less than half. HALF. We need to get over this home rule legacy.

Just voted at PHS and it was packed. The machine broke for a little while and people had to put their ballots in a box in the machine to be counted later. I was glad it was fixed by the time I got to it. But the entire system of paper ballots needs to be corrected. This is 2012 and paper ballots is old school.

Went to vote at 7:00A.M. and what a great turnout at that time of morning. It had to be about 50 or so people in line. Voting is a "privilege" and all who are accountable to vote, should do it! If not, don't speak negative after the fact. When your vote was important and you did not take the advantage of it. Praying that whomever wins, they will seek godly leadership. Men have done things their way for the pass 60-70 years and put our country in such turmoil. YES, IT"S TIME FOR GODLY A CHANGE and only then, will we see "victories" taking place throughout this entire world. God Bless America!

The biggest shame is that Elizabeth Myers was able to print and place on the radio a blatant lie about the moving of Newport Grand and the only repercussion is that people will lose their jobs and Newport will lose tax dollars....she and the Reverand McKenna should be ashamed

By approving every bond-related bond question, Rhode Island voters just voted themselves a massive tax burden. Beyond belief.

I agree. All these issuesl have merit, but the economic times warrant a more selective approach. I would also like to buy the EGFD a new fire headquarters, but money is just too tight right now.

Most people do not totally read the bond issues or initiatives that they are voting on. And they certainly do not research them or look to see who is backing these propositions. No time is taken to see just who these issues protect, support or promote. Calif. had an initiative that was proposed by a group and if it had passed that group would have profited. Most or all people saw thru this legalize curtain.

I love the fact that the riches people in the country tried to buy the election spent all that money and still lost. That I say is the best part you can’t buy the presidency.
All that wasted money could have help out a lot of home owners who got ripped off buy the banks and the 1%. It is time to pay back all you stole from our home values you thief’s.

what are you talking about, Obama raised more money than Mitt Romney & spent more on negative ads. Of course you can buy the presidency, In N.H. people were bused to the polls where they had registration the same day as elecion day, DNC was in the polling places telling voters to vote for Dems or lose their checks, phones, food stamps, etc.. Lies & scare tatics, paying homeless & students to vote. Please pay attention. Also, as far as the housing problems, Obama was a community organizer who sued to have the banks give loans to people who could not afford to buy a home, resulting in foreclosures. It is because some do not pay attention or care enough to make an effort to learn about what is truly happening, this country will continue to fall. I'm saddened that because of your ignorance, my family & all the hard working people of this country will suffer.

Spoken by a typical ignorant voter- comparing illegals, welfre recipients and union workers.
You think illegals and some welfare recipients are the same as our policemen.firemen and teachers????
You've obviously bought into the class warfare trap that the democrats created. If you heard all of the the democratic commercials they all said the same thing- millionares should pay more. Do you really think Whtehouse, Langevin and Cicilline live paycheck to paycheck?
They're all millionares!!

Jim R... and.... don't you think that is what the Dems are trying to get done.... have Mitt, Barak and all the fat cats to release some of their wealth. Most of the wealthy are not going to look after you or me.
Hmmm, let's see now.. There could certainly be some fireman, police and certainly some illegal immigrants as well as teachers on welfare. Give it some more thought for a better answer or a better question or a better argument.
