Tiverton Extends Time PAYT Bags Not Required
Tiverton residents can use any color trash bags for the week of Dec. 31 through Jan. 4.
The Town of Tiverton extended the time the residents will not be required to use pay-as-you-throw-bags by one day.
Pay As You Throw (PAYT) trash bags will not be required for Tiverton residents during the week of Dec. 31 through Jan. 5.
In accordance with past years, the Town Council voted at its Dec. 10 meeting to suspend PAYT trash bags for one week, allowing residents to use any color trash bags during the week that transitions into the new year.
All trash must still be in bags and all regular trash and recycling rules still apply.

this is good news, I will finally be able to get rid of some stuff I was saving up (not really "trash" but expendable items, broken things) that I was originally going to try and take to the dump.

As the stench of 3 weeks of garbage accumulates in my home over the holiday season (until we can dump it for free) I will reflect on the the bag fee we were imposed and the stench that went along with the reign of the TCC. To think we must pay a trash fee so that those yacht owners among us are allowed to rid their waste for free on the SS Coulter (or pump-out boat) just doesn't sit well with me. Now that we have rid ourselves of the TCC, can we see that the bag fee soon follows?

Tiverton residents should know the facts.
Four of the six Town Council members who voted for the bag fees are still on the Town Council:
President Ed Roderick (Tiverton 1st, Tiverton Democrats)
Brett Pelletier (Tiverton 1st, Tiverton Democrats)
Jay Lambert (TCC)
Joan Chabot (TCC)
The only town council member who voted against the pay as you throw program (insisting that every resident should receive the free bag for which they already pay) was Rob Coulter (TCC), who is no longer on the council.

Yes Tiverton know the facts:
True Mr. Coulter voted no because he wanted the 1 free bag, but he was very much in favor of the bag fee to cover the costs of closing the landfill. In fact, he spoke in favor of the program at numerous meetings subsequent to this one vote.
And despite him favoring the fee program for residents as a means to close the dump, he and his wife (both TCC) do not contribute to that closing because the do NOT dispose of their trash in Tiverton. As announced by Mrs. Coulter at a meeting, they bring their garbage to her private business dumpster in Newport (most likely in violation of the contract with the dumpster provider).

Justin we would also like to know the facts about who it was who stole the pins from the school and recorded a conversation/interogation with the secretary. Please do share that info and no i do not work at the schols and yes I wil remain anonymous which seems to be the same way about 70% of the folks on your two blogs like to be.

Not sure what your "facts" tell us, Justin. The facts are that the TCC voting block of Nelson/Lambert/Chabot/Roderick supported the bag fee and now we pay it. They could have stopped it if that's what you are trying to deny. Trying to not claim credit for Roderick's first term when he carried the endorsement of the TCC is TCC-typical and yet another example of the TCC trying to run from their record.
Where's your outrage on TCC's non-appropriated pump-out boat purchase, Justin? Do you consider that an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars? Do you own a yacht or are you in the yachting business like some of the other TCC candidates?

Wow Joe, "delusional" and "diatribes"-Those are a couple of big words! Funny though, they're the same two words constantly used by your buddy Jack Baillargeron-are you two collaborating before you post?

this town should have went with the Decal plan, buy the decals for a buck and stick it to a regular garbage bag, distribute the decals at the town hall, public works, library, police & fire stations, the profits would be more than triple of the plan we have now to pay for the capping of the dump, its not too late to change.

No PAYT from Dec 31 through Jan 4th. Does that mean those residents that would have their regular pick up on Friday the 4th, that will be moved to Jan 5th due to the holiday on Tuesday the 1st, must use PAYT bags on the 5th?

Roy, I recommend you call the Town Administrator's office. They should be able to provide you with an answer.
