Missing Surfer In Little Compton Makes It Safely Back To Shore

The male surfer was reported missing a little before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Officials got a report of a missing male surfer a little before 6 p.m. on Saturday. Around 7:10 p.m., Chief Richard Petrin reported he made it back to shore safely on his own.

A name and residence for the surfer were not available.

Getting a report of a missing male surfer near West Island, which is offshore from the Sakonnet Lighthouse, Petrin said they had a boat in the water ready to look for the surfer. The U.S. Coast Guard was called to assist, but never made it, Petrin added.
