Little Compton Eagle Scout Cleans Cemetery For Service Project

His community service project centered around cleaning the Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery.

Nathaniel Ramsbottom, of Little Compton, earned his Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scout Troop 29 last month in a ceremony at the Little Compton Community Center.

To earn scouting’s highest award, Ramsbottom completed a community service project: organizing and supervising members of his troop in several maintenance projects at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Little Compton. Following the damage and from Hurricane Irene, Ramsbottom led the troop in cleaning up fallen trees and overgrowth around the maintenance shed. Then, they refurbished its exterior.

In an email, Ramsbottom said they repaired and replaced the rotting boards and cut away all the plants from taking over the shed.

"It went smoother than I thought it would and turned out perfect," he said, satisfied.

Ramsbottom had to earn 24 merit badges serve as a leader in his troop. He has been a member of Troop 29 for five years and has served the troop as patrol leader, quartermaster, instructor and senior patrol leader. He attended Camp Yawgoog each summer.

Ramsbottom graduates from Portsmouth High School this June and plans to attend business school in New Hampshire next fall.
