House GOP Caucus Expels Rep. Dan Gordon
The representative received notice of the decision on Wednesday.
The Rhode Island House GOP Caucus has confirmed that members voted Tuesday to expel Rep. Dan Gordon.
House Minority Leader Brian Newberry sent a letter to Gordon on Wednesday letting him know the decision, the Providence Journal reports.
The letter reportedly tells Gordon that "As a practical matter, this means you no longer have access to the House Minority Office and staff."
An explicit reason for the decision has not yet been given. Earlier this month, Newberry sent Gordon a warning letter after he reportedly made derogatory comments about fellow Republicans.
Gordon stirred up controversy earlier this year after making comments on a Tiverton-Little Compton Patch article about the newly formed Gay-Straight Alliance at Tiverton High School.
On the article, Gordon commented: "And this is why if I have anything to say about it, Tiverton will lose school funding to local charter schools. It doesn't matter if gay or straight, if sexual meet-up groups are being promoted in our schools rather than improving test scores, that school is failing. Is it really more important for our children to get 'sexed-up', than learning advanced math?"

After all of my observations of this man in the news, it seems to me that he just doesn't know when to quit. Almost as if he thinks there will not be any consequences to his actions or that no one can "touch him," regardless of what he says or does. It is just a shame that the Tiverton voters voted for him. Another example of why I believe one should vote for the candidate and not the party. Politically, I am in the middle and I try to vote for the candidate that I think makes this most sense and can benefit the most of their constituents. I don't think Rep Gordan will run again after his PR debacles, however if he does I would not vote for him. I think most people won't too, but that's just my opinion.

I heard the house minority leader on WPRO this morning. Some lowlights:
*Some members of the GOP caucus felt physically threatened by Gordon's online posts and in-person comments.
*If Gordon decides to run for reelection, the RI Republicans will back a different candidate. Gordon would be foolish to seek reelection because of his ineffectiveness.
*Gordon's constituents are basically unrepresented in the state house. We need to "ride it out" or appeal to a representative from an adjoining district.
*There was no mention of the GSA controversy as a factor.
He was followed by the house majority leader who added:
*Gordon's constituents deserve to know the full details of what caused his ouster
*These details should be made public in case there was anything criminal or actionable. (Cyber stalking comes to mind).
I ask people to look at the TCC's 2010 FTM yellow card (which has disappeared from the original story. Matt, will you re-post it?), and vote against anyone whose name appears on that card alongside Dan Gordon's unless and until they publicly repudiate Dan Gordon for leaving us high and dry.

Dan Gordon: I couldn't agree more. In my line of work, commercial construction, I deal with a wide variety of issues involving law and legislation. Examples: Building codes, worker's comp., contract law, unemployment insurance, bonding, liability insur...ance, E-Verify, background checks for employees on Federal projects, and many more.
Shall I be subject to imposition by an unelected body because of my duality as a self-employed person that espouses rugged individualism, and a duly-elected law maker? That in itself promotes corruption by political appointees.
I will support Minority Whip Newberry's amendment. (I can only imagine the potential 'conflicts' for a litigator with the wide range of issue they deal with)

From plagiarism.org: (Joe this is how you cite sources)
"What is Plagiarism?
Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work, or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense:
According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means
•to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
•to use (another's production) without crediting the source
•to commit literary theft
•to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.
But can words and ideas really be stolen?
According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).
All of the following are considered plagiarism:
•turning in someone else's work as your own
•copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
•failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
•giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
•changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit"
