Bomb Threat At Tiverton High School Deemed Bogus, Meeting Still On For Tonight

The state bomb squad determined that a bomb threat at Tiverton High School this morning was unsubstantiated. Tonight's School Committee meeting will proceed and classes will begin as scheduled on Friday.

The state Bomb Squad cleared Tiverton High School all security risk by 11:30 a.m. after students were evacuated due to a bomb threat. School will begin on time on Friday.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday a student notified high school administrators that a message reporting a bomb threat was written on the wall in one of the school's bathrooms. According to Tiverton Police Capt. Patrick Jones, administrators immediately notified School Resource Officer Sgt. Ken Cabral of the threat.

Tiverton Police put the school on lock down and within 30-45 minutes school was canceled and students were evacuated and on First Student buses on their way home.

"As  far as executing the safety plan, everything was executed the way it was supposed to be," said Supt. William Rearick in an interview on Thursday afternoon. "In this type of crisis [the safety plan] works very well."

"We determined the need to follow appropriate safety protocols and we did it," added Rearick. "Everything went as according to plan, and it was well executed. We followed our procedures."

By 11:30 a.m. the bomb squad ad the bomb-sniffing K-9 unit determined that there was no actual threat of a bomb exploding in the school, the scene was cleared and administrators were admitted back into the building.

Tonight's special Tiverton School Committee Meeting on school building safety will begin on time at 5 p.m. in the high school library.

Both school administrators and and Tiverton Police believe a student could be to blame for the threat.

"I'm very disappointed that one of our students could do something like this and I would be disappointed regardless but because of what just happened in Connecticut, I am even more so."

Jones agreed that today's events hit at a sensitive time.

"Especially at this time, we take all threats to any public buildings, especially schools very seriously," said Jones. "Making a false threat is a felony offense."

Rearick said he was planning to meet with high school administrators to discuss the handling of the issue.

"We will be addressing this with students and staff, but I am still in discussion with the high school principal on how to handle that," added Rearick.

Joe, it was a threat written on one of the bathroom walls. Either way. It was not funny. It was an awful feeling to get a text from my daughter that there was a bomb threat.

Hard to track a phone number when it clearly states that a student informed the administration of a message written on a wall.
Unless even concrete walls have phone numbers these days.
Those highballs must be extra strong today Joe.
More water, less whiskey buddy.

"RU Serious"-On his way home from work, Joe must have stopped over at the social club where he peddles his illegal out of state non-taxed cigarettes and had one too many Pabst Blue Ribbons. Hopefully he'll be snoozing soon and the readers won't be subjected to his rants until he wakes up tomorrow.

Glad to hear it Joe-While the ATF agents are at your house confiscating your soon to be illegal arsenal of weapons, they can kill two birds with one stone and also charge you with the illegal sale of cigarettes without a Rhode Island tax stamp.

Why business does a full-grown, childless Gun-toting man have in our schools?

If he doesn't work there - he should be scrutinized, checked for weapons and
accompanied by an armed escort. Overdue justice is coming for you, Joe.

After last week, your interest in school children is unwelcome.

Naome-Hopefully there will be a sufficient police presence to discourage Joe Sousa from attending the meeting at the high school, and causing any sort of problem.

Also, keep in mind Naome, it appears your name has joined the list of dozens that Joe thinks is the same poster, using different screen names.

And people wonder why mentally unstable individuals should not have access to firearms?

I hope they do. This was a far worse felony than a kid with some weed and improperly transported firearm. Hopefully the finest break out the old Inspector Gadget tools and treat it as such.
And thereby, give Joe another target for his poo-throwing monkey ass.

Does not a turd by any other name still smell as bad?

And butt head? Really?
How 90s.
You really are out of touch with reality.
And yet I still act like I'm shocked.

Oh no.
You are sadly mistaken my friend.
I'm someone new.
Someone new with a goal in mind.
And a ton of ambition.

You see Josephine,
I've been lurking and watching and reading for a while.
And I was just waiting for the moment to start unloading.
