Winter Parking Ban Updates in Tiverton and Little Compton

Tiverton's winter parking ban went into effect at 11 p.m. on Thursday night and will remain in effect to this early afternoon. If vehicles are found in violation of the ban, they will be towed and ticketed, according to Tiverton Police.

The charge of the ticket is $50.

Given the weekend forecast for more snow, Lt. Patrick Jones said they will reinstate the parking ban either later tonight or tomorrow as reports come in.

The town parking ordinance states, "No person shall park any vehicle on any street or highway so that it will interfere with or prevent the clearing of such street or highway from ice or snow by the highway department. Parking is specifically forbidden on that side of the street on which hydrants are located. On streets on which no hydrants are located, parking is specifically forbidden on the north side of east-west streets and on the east side of north-south streets when the chief of police shall issue a no parking snow warning over local radio and television."

Little Compton Emergency Management Director Bob Mushen said on Friday morning said there are no parking bans or issues from Thursday's storm, and projects the town is in good shape for the weekend's wintry weather.
